“What is the secret to the law of attraction?” is a question that many people ask.
Firstly, there is really no secret to the law of attraction – “The Secret” and the ‘law of attraction’ as it has become known in the West, are two different, but related things. The law of attraction is a universal law and “The Secret” is one book about it, although there have been many books, teachers and references to the law of attraction, under different names and guises, across time.
The law of attraction has been around since before time as we know it began, and is one of the fundamental laws of the universe. We are all subject to it – from the smallest single-celled organism to the greatest of all beings, because it is integral to what we all are, which is ENERGY. We are all affected by the law of attraction.whether we know it or not, whether we like it or not, and whether we consciously use it or not. It works consistently and precisely like a mathematical formula. There are no exceptions: you cannot ‘opt in or opt out’ because it is the basis of the universe as we know it, and well beyond.
The law of attraction states: “ The essence of that which is like unto itself, is drawn“. (Jerry & Esther Hicks and the teachings of Abraham)
I love the poetry in this explanation, however, I think there are few other, simpler ways of saying it. These are often things that we say regularly, things we all fundamentally know to be true, and things that some of us try to learn from and live by. Think for example of phrases like:
- like attracts like
- birds of a feather, flock together
- what you give is what you get
- you reap what you sow
- everything you do comes back to you
To me, all of these sayings are rooted fundamentally in the law of attraction and the whole of consciousness has been able to access it since the birth of the universe.
So if it is so fundamental, why do I need to learn about the law of attraction?
You do not need to know anything about the law of attraction to have it work for you. It is working all the time. Similarly, Esther Hicks points out in her books on law of attraction, that you don’t need to know anything about gravity to stay attached to the planet. There are no stories on the news about people floating off into space because they didn’t know about gravity! You also do not need to know about breathing in order to take your first breath; it is just what we do. But if we learn about breathing and we learn about gravity; observe them, study them and gain a greater understanding of them; then we can send people to the moon!
It is the same with the law of attraction. If you study it, learn to understand it and focus on it on a daily basis, it can transform your life beyond all recognition.
