The Law of Attraction Explained

If you want the Law of Attraction explained in simple terms that you can understand, read on.

This post was updated on 12th of September 2025 to include new insights and resources.

The Law of Attraction is one of the most talked-about spiritual principles of our time, but it’s often misunderstood. Is it really a “secret”? Not at all. The truth is, the Law of Attraction is a universal law that underpins everything in our lives. You’re already using it every day, whether consciously or unconsciously. The choice is whether you want to be a default creator, reacting to circumstances, or a conscious creator, deliberately shaping your reality.

This complete guide explores the three core premises of the Law of Attraction, how it works in daily life, and practical steps you can take to align with it. You’ll also find links to related articles on money, gratitude, imagination, happiness, and raising your vibration, so you can dive deeper into the areas that matter most to you.

If you prefer watching to reading, this short video explains the key steps in under 3 minutes.

What is the Law of Attraction?

The Law of Attraction is the idea that like attracts like. In simple terms, the energy you send out into the world is the energy that comes back to you. Your thoughts, feelings, and beliefs all carry a vibration, and the universe responds to those vibrations by reflecting them back to you in the form of experiences, people, and circumstances.

Some people call it “manifesting,” others see it as a spiritual law, and some even approach it from a scientific perspective, linking it to energy, vibration, and focus. Whatever words you choose, the principle remains the same: what you focus on expands.

The Law of Attraction is not a hidden “secret” available only to a select few. It is always at work – whether you believe in it or not. The difference lies in how you use it. You can drift through life as a default creator, reacting to whatever comes your way, or you can step into the role of a conscious creator, deliberately choosing your focus and shaping your life with intention.

At its heart, the Law of Attraction is an invitation: to become aware of the power of your own thoughts and emotions and to consciously use them to work with the universe rather than against it.

The 3 Premises of the Law of Attraction

I believe that we all chose to come to this life in order to experience the thrill of conscious creation, to ride the waves of deliberate and intended manifestation and to have enormous fun doing it. But there are some fundamental premises that you need to accept in order to fully understand what the Law of Attraction is about, and how you can get back to your true and magnificent nature and work with the universe to create the life you really want.

These premises are:

  1. We exist in a vibrational universe
  2. The law of attraction exists – answering nature’s call for ‘more’
  3. You need to align your vibrational energy to let in what you have asked for.

Understanding these premises, and applying the techniques and principles you will find on this site, will help you direct your thoughts, your energy, and ultimately the universe, to create the wonderful life that you have imagined, the one you’ve been dreaming of since childhood which is now within your grasp if you would just let it in. It really is there for the taking so read on to begin the journey of your life.

Let’s look at each of the 3 premises in turn.

Premise 1: We exist in a vibrational universe

We are all made of energy! Flesh and blood yes, but flesh and blood that is ultimately made of energy for we are all really spiritual beings in a physical world.

At the most fundamental level, everything is energy. We are spiritual beings in physical bodies, and every part of us – every cell, every molecule, every atom – vibrates at a frequency. The same is true of everything around us: people, objects, animals, plants, even thoughts.

Science backs this up. Einstein’s famous equation, E = mc², shows that energy and mass are interrelated. What looks solid is, in truth, mostly empty space held together by energetic forces. Modern physics, from the discovery of quarks to theories like string theory, continues to reveal that reality is far less “solid” than it appears.

But you don’t need a physics degree to grasp the essence of this. Think about sound waves. You can tune into one radio station while hundreds of others are still broadcasting – you just don’t hear them until you adjust the dial. Light waves behave in the same way: some frequencies are visible to us, while others, like infrared or ultraviolet, remain unseen.

Nature provides countless examples too. A dog hears a whistle we can’t. A shark senses the faint electrical field of a hidden fish. An owl detects vibrations under the snow to catch prey. These abilities show that there are layers of vibration all around us, whether we are aware of them or not.

This is why the Law of Attraction makes sense. If everything is vibration, then what we focus on and feel deeply is the “frequency” we are tuning into. The universe doesn’t judge – it simply responds by matching that frequency.

As Obi-Wan Kenobi put it in Star Wars:

“The Force is what gives a Jedi his power. It’s an energy field created by all living things. It surrounds us and penetrates us; it binds the galaxy together.”

A playful metaphor perhaps, but closer to the truth than many realise.

What better explanation do we need?

Premise 2: The law of attraction exists – answering nature’s call for ‘more’

Many people come to the law of attraction out of a desire to have a greater degree of control over their own lives. A lot of us feel lost and helpless at points in our lives and recognise a call from deep within ourselves for things to be better. This is the call of expansion – the call of the universe or of ‘evolution’ if you will – a desire deep down for things to be better, for continued improvement, or just for things to be ‘better‘ or ‘more‘ than they have ever been before.

We all feel this urge. We cannot, not feel it. Remember that the law of attraction says that “like attracts like”. What you think of on a daily and regular basis, is what you will attract. So if you are having positive thoughts which result in positive feelings and corresponding positive vibrations, then the law of attraction says the universe will line up more vibrations of the same frequency, which you, in turn, will experience as the manifestations you desire.

Your thoughts = vibrations = more similar vibrations = manifestations you experience (i.e. your stuff!)

This in a nutshell, is how the law of attraction works.

Diagram with the Law of Attraction explained showing a person whose thoughts become feelings which become vibration that then attracts situations, people and events

The Law of Attraction is the mechanism behind our expansion. It is often summed up in the phrase like attracts like. The thoughts you think repeatedly, the feelings you nurture, and the beliefs you hold most strongly all carry a vibration. The universe simply matches that vibration with more of the same.

  • If your thoughts are rooted in appreciation, you attract more to appreciate
  • If your focus is on lack, you’ll notice more lack reflected back

Your thoughts become feelings → your feelings create a vibration → and that vibration calls in matching experiences. This is the creative process at work.

Of course, this doesn’t mean the universe is judging your thoughts as good or bad. It doesn’t say “yes” to abundance and “no” to fear. It simply responds to what you are broadcasting. If you constantly dwell on not having enough money, the universe answers by reinforcing that lack. If you allow yourself to feel the joy of prosperity – even before it arrives physically – the universe lines up circumstances that reflect that vibration.

The difficulty is that many of us have been trained to doubt ourselves. We squash our desires with cynicism or compare ourselves to others. We tell ourselves that resources are limited, that there isn’t enough to go around, that we’re unworthy of standing out. And in doing so, we block the very abundance we’re asking for.

But here’s the truth: there is always more. More to see, to feel, to experience. The universe is ever-expanding, and your desires are part of that expansion. By daring to claim your dreams, you are not being selfish – you are co-creating with life itself.

Cultures throughout history have recognised this life force in different ways, giving it many names: God, Source, Chi, Prana, the Holy Spirit, the Great Spirit, the Goddess, Nature. The words vary, but the essence is the same – an infinite, intelligent energy that answers the call for more.

Premise 3: You need to align your vibrational energy to let in what you have asked for

This is the difficult part for most people although it really is the most natural and simplest thing in the world to do. Anyone can do it from anywhere because we all possess the resources we need all the time which is only the ability to quiet our mind and resonate with universal energy. The problem is that we have got really good at getting in our own way.

Asking comes easily (premise one), the call is always answered (premise 2), so why does it not appear in our reality? Why can we not spend the money in the bank if the universe is so abundant? And why is there so much hate in the world if the universe is created on love?

This is the part where most of us stumble – tuning into the right frequency and letting what we’ve asked for flow into our lives – is where we often trip ourselves up.

Think of it like tuning a radio. You can’t set the dial to 96.6 and expect to hear what’s playing on 106.2. The Law of Attraction works in the same way: if you want to experience joy, abundance, or love, you need to tune yourself to those vibrations, not to the static of worry, doubt, or lack.

an old radio with a cup and saucer and plate of biscuits and some flowers

In practice, many of us focus more on the absence of what we want than on the reality of already having it. We replay old doubts, compare ourselves to others, or convince ourselves that our dreams are unrealistic. The result? We stay tuned to the wrong frequency, and life mirrors that back to us.

Imagine instead that you are standing in an art class with a blank canvas. In your mind’s eye, you see a vivid, colourful bouquet of flowers you long to paint. The inspiration flows through you and your brush begins to move. But then you glance around and notice that everyone else is painting only black-and-white daisies. Doubt creeps in: maybe your flowers are “wrong.” You paint over them, suppressing your inspiration to match what you see around you.

That is what happens when we look to the outside world instead of honouring our own inner vision. We dilute our vibration, settle for less, and forget we ever had the power to create something new.

When you hold your inspired vision — brightly, joyfully, consistently — you align with the energy of Source. You become a channel for creation. And the universe, which is always listening, begins to match that frequency with opportunities, people, and events that reflect it back to you.

Or, as The Matrix put it so memorably: “There is no spoon.” What we see as solid matter is simply energy, mostly empty space, translated through our senses. Once you grasp that truth, you stop trying to bend the spoon with effort and instead align your vibration — and suddenly, the spoon bends with ease.

How to practise the Law of Attraction

Understanding the principles is one thing, but living them authentically is another. The Law of Attraction is always working, but you can begin to work with it consciously by practising simple daily habits that align your vibration with what you want to experience.

According to Esther Hicks and Abraham, the correct sequence of events for creation is as follows:

1. Ask for what you want

2. Source answers and sends what you want

3. Allow the energy to manifest in your life – tune in to the right frequency and get rid of resistance, negativity and blocks. Energy can then flow to you and through you and when enough has amassed, you will experience it in a physical sense. It is law.

In reality, step 3 is where most people fall down. Step one is what we are all doing all the time, either consciously or unconsciously; step 2 is an automatic response from the universe, but step 3 takes mental and emotional effort and many of us have forgotten how to do step 3 which is why we end up creating by default.

When we master step 3, we can also then begin to be much clearer in step 1 about what we want to ask for, knowing with certainty that it will show up in our lives.

A vital note about your beliefs

Before you dive into visualisations, affirmations, or gratitude practices, it’s important to recognise the role of your subconscious mind. If you are carrying strong limiting beliefs — for example, “I don’t deserve abundance,” or “things never work out for me” — those beliefs will quietly dominate your vibration, no matter how many positive words you speak.

It’s a bit like painting over a damp wall. You can cover it with fresh paint, and for a while it looks fine. But if you don’t fix the source of the damp, the stains will always seep back through, no matter how many coats you add. In the same way, if you don’t address the root of your limiting beliefs, they will keep showing up in your reality. Esther Hicks says that “A belief is just a thought you keep thinking”, which alludes to our ability to change our beliefs if we change our thoughts.

That’s why inner work on awareness, healing, and releasing old patterns is a crucial part of conscious creation. When you deal with the damp at its source, the paint holds beautifully. When you shift the belief beneath the surface, your vibration naturally rises, and the practices of LOA become effortless and powerful.

RJ Spina’s “Order of Creation”

Spiritual teacher RJ Spina offers another way to understand how creation works. In his framework, manifestation unfolds in a very specific sequence, as laid out in his book, “The Law of Attention”:

  1. Desire – The initial spark that comes from your higher self, not from ego. It’s the soul’s authentic impulse.
  2. Intention – The focused directive that channels desire into purpose.
  3. Thought – The mental blueprint that gives shape to desire and intention.
  4. Emotion – The energetic charge that amplifies and fuels manifestation.
  5. Action – The physical steps you take to embody what you are creating.
  6. Behaviour – The sustained pattern of action that stabilises the manifested reality.

Spina is adamant that if we want to tap into our true, unlimited power to create, we must dismantle the limiting beliefs of the egoic mind identity (EMI). These are the subconscious programs that convince us we are small, separate, or powerless. By undoing the EMI and reconnecting with our higher self, we align naturally with Source energy and experience creation as it was always meant to be – flowing, expansive, and limitless.

Infographic showing RJ Spina's Order of Creation in relation to manifestation

This is also echoed in Eckhart Tolle’s book “The Power of Now” which advocates stopping uncontrolled thinking (born of the ego), in order to gain control over what we offer to the universe through conscious control of our awareness. In other words, to gain control of our vibration and to use our mind and thoughts in a very conscious way.

How can you start consciously using the Law of Attraction?

Here are some effective ways to start to reconnect to the vibration of what you desire, and to move you away from the egoic mind that gets in the way:

  • Visualisation – Spend a few quiet minutes each day imagining your desired outcome as if it were already real. See it in vivid detail, feel the emotions of having it, and let that sense of joy expand
  • Gratitude – Write down or think of three things you appreciate every day. Gratitude lifts your vibration quickly and opens the door for more experiences to appreciate
  • Meditation or stillness – Quiet the mind and connect with the energy of Source. Even ten minutes of focusing on your breath or sitting in silence helps clear resistance and tune you back into flow
  • Affirmations or scripting – Speak or write statements in the present tense about what you want to experience. For example: “I am attracting opportunities that support my highest good.” This strengthens belief and focus but has to be done once the limiting beliefs have been tackled
  • Acting “as if” – Begin to behave in small ways as though your desire is already unfolding. This might mean carrying yourself with more confidence, saying yes to opportunities, or creating space for abundance in your life.

The key is consistency and doing the inner work on your subconscious blocks to “detune them” as David Strickel would say in “The Tya Practice”, which is another book that goes beyond the surface teachings of the Law of Attraction. These practices don’t need to be complicated or time-consuming, especially when you start. The more regularly you focus your thoughts and emotions on what you want, the more naturally your vibration aligns, and the universe responds in kind. Once you are used to aligning in these simple ways, you can tackle some of the deeper limiting beliefs from a firmer footing.

Common misconceptions about the Law of Attraction

Because the Law of Attraction has become such a popular topic, especially after the book, “The Secret“, it’s often misunderstood. Clearing up these misconceptions can help you see what the Law of Attraction really is and what it isn’t.

1. It’s not just positive thinking
Some people dismiss LOA as nothing more than “thinking happy thoughts.” While positivity helps, the real work is in changing your vibration – the deep feelings and beliefs that sit beneath your thoughts. You can say all the affirmations you like, but if your subconscious belief is “I don’t deserve this,” that will be the vibration the universe responds to.

2. It doesn’t mean ignoring problems
The Law of Attraction is not about pretending difficulties don’t exist or suppressing emotions. Denying pain, grief, or anger only pushes them into the subconscious, where they continue to shape your vibration. A healthier approach is to acknowledge what you feel, process it, and then choose to shift towards alignment but no longer identifying with your egoic mind. When you align with who you truly are, the awareness behind your current incarnation, then you realise your true, unlimited potential.

3. It’s not instant magic
You don’t click your fingers and suddenly manifest a car, a soulmate, or a million pounds. The universe is responsive but also intelligent and it lines things up through people, opportunities, timing, and synchronicities. Sometimes you need to grow into what you’ve asked for before it can arrive. Remember that the universe you see around you is a reflection of your inner being – as without, so within.

4. It doesn’t replace action
Some think LOA means you can sit back and wait for things to happen. In truth, the law works best when you combine aligned vibration with aligned action. Inspiration from your true self is your cue. When you feel nudged to call someone, start a project, or take a step, that’s the universe inviting you to co-create.

5. It’s not selfish
Wanting more love, abundance, or joy in your life doesn’t take anything away from anyone else. The universe is abundant and ever-expanding and there is enough of everything for everyone that asks because the universe is neutral and does not judge what you ask for or what you are. You don’t manifest by asking, you manifest by being (i.e. your vibration). By creating a fuller life for yourself, you actually add to the whole and often inspire others to do the same.

My closing thoughts on the Law of Attraction

The Law of Attraction is not a secret; it is a universal law that is always working, whether we acknowledge it or not. The question is whether we choose to create by default, or to step into our true role as conscious creators.

By understanding that everything is vibration, recognising the call for “more,” and learning how to align your energy, you begin to see that life isn’t happening to you; it’s responding to you.

The journey isn’t about striving for perfection or denying challenges. It’s about becoming aware of your thoughts and beliefs, releasing what no longer serves you, and aligning with the higher truth of who you really are. When you do this, you open the door to experiences, people, and opportunities that reflect your deepest desires.

Remember: you create your own reality. What you choose to focus on today is shaping the life you will step into tomorrow.

Here’s to becoming a conscious creator of the life you truly want.

  1. Duly, ‘Hats Off’, Gail. Wonderful and so ‘explicitly put’ post.

You are bang on when you say that “Most people are judging themselves by what everyone else has said or created”. That is what we let drive our actions and consequently, get off-path in our journey of life. we do need to align ourselves with the Universe. I loved the analogy of the radio tuner.

And, cannot ignore the Physics lessons that you have pushed down our throats again after soooo many years LOL!!!

    Great post!!

    • Thanks for reading and commenting Deepika. I agree that we all need to stop looking around at others and look within instead. Sorry about the physics but to me it’s all one and the same. Have a great day. Gail

  2. Hi Gail. This is an amazing overview of the Law of Attraction and Quantum Physics. I have not checked out your resources yet, are you familiar with Dr. Joe Dispenza? I just finished an amazing book by him about Quantum Physics and how it applies to our lives.

For many years, I would focus on and worry about the things that I did not want. Of course, I received more of it in return. I wish more people would understand how powerful their thoughts are. Great read!

    • Hi Scott. Thanks for reading. I am familiar with Joe’s work although I have not studied him in detail. But since I trust in the law of attraction, when I hear of new lines and resources, I respect that and always investigate them. Thank you for sharing and I appreciate you taking the time to comment. I totally agree that the world would be a better place if more of us understood who we truly are. Let’s set an intention for that. 🙂

  3. The law of attraction only doesn’t work because most people don’t think about a given thing and expect it to get it. Same it will not happen. If we act in a given direction and think about it intensively, then we will attract it. That’s my opinion.

    • Thanks for your comment Michael. I would just add that in my opinion, the law of attraction is always working but people have the perception that it isn’t because they are getting what they don’t want due to their continued focus on the things they don’t want. As you rightly suggest, the way to have the things you want is to focus on that instead. Thanks for reading this. Have a great day. Gail

  4. Hi! Gail,
You have done a wonderful job in diligently and vigilantly searching, analyzing, and summarizing what you collected, resulting in this masterpiece of work. Bravo.

    • Thanks for your kind comments James and I agree that wellness is a state of mind that we can all achieve easily if we tend to our thoughts first. Thanks for taking the time to read and reply. Gail

  5. Wowee, Gail, thanks for an awesome and very comprehensive post. I thought I knew everything there was to know about the Law of Attraction, but I definitely wasn’t aware of all the Science behind it. How fascinating! And thanks for so clearly outlining what to do (and what not to do). I’ve been realising how I’m pushing certain things away from me. I know what I want but I focus on the wanting and talk about the not having instead of living in the new vibration of havingness.

    • Hi Lauren. Thanks for reading and taking the time to reply. I hope it was helpful to you. We don’t need to know any of the physics behind things for the law of attraction to work but I just love it as it draws everything together for me.  I’m not sure we will ever know everything about anything really as our perspective changes, so does what we know and understand and different things make sense to us in different ways. That’s one of the amazing things about the law of attraction too – as we get what we desire, new desires come up and we always want more.  I wish you all the best in manifesting the things you do want. What an exciting time. 🙂

  6. i find the law of attraction really interesting and have often wondered about what it really is in greater detail. this article answered all the questions i previously had in a fun and concise manner and i now feel much more confident when it comes to using the law of attraction to my advantage

    thanks for posting

    • Thanks for reading and commenting Jacob. I’m glad that it was helpful to you in explaining things in some detail. The law of attraction is always working so it will be great if you can use it efficiently to get the things you really want. Thank you again for reading. Gail

  7. Hi Gail Lowe!

Today, more and more people are becoming aware that the law of attraction is the universal law by which we create our lives.

I’m glad that there are sites like yours in which you are explaining how this law works. For the first time I heard about the LOA in the book and the movie “The Secret”, and then in the movie “What the Bleep do We Know”. I also applied its principles and consciously attracted many things to my life.

Thanks for the great article and all the information!

    • Thanks Dragan. I’m glad you found the site and article and that you have also see the 2 films you mention, which are both great at explaining the law of attraction.  It’s great that you can take the principles and apply them in your own life as they do work and anyone who applies them consistently and in a focused way can attest to that too.  Feel free to come back anytime as our aim is to publish more techniques and tools to really help people to get the law of attraction to work for them in a conscious way. Thanks for reading.

  8. I really enjoyed reading this post.
I grew up learning about the energies and the law of attraction and i truly believe in it.
You covered with so much detail that i’m very glad i came across it.
I will look forward to more of your posts, thank you for sharing it so more people learn about it.

    • Thank you for your kind comments Arlet and I’m glad you enjoyed the post. It is my intention to inform not to ‘convert’ as everyone is on their own path and can come to the material in their own time. I hope that you do indeed come back as I am posting lots more on how to practically make this work. Why not look at the affirmations that I have done as well as these are very useful for everyone looking to improve their own lives. I wish you every success. Gail

  9. The radio frequency analogy is perfect! I feel like I’m constantly tuned to the ‘stress and chaos’ station with my team. Your mention of addressing subconscious blocks resonates—I think my imposter syndrome is sabotaging my leadership efforts. Is there a specific practice you’d recommend for leaders who feel completely out of their depth?

    • Hi Linda. Thanks for reading and leaving a comment. Glad you found the radio analogy useful. If you are feeling out of your depth at work, this is due to a limiting belief that you have that you are somehow not good enough or not worthy of the position you hold. This is not who you truly are but a belief you have adopted subconsciously about yourself and your situation. In order to counter this belief, there are few things that you can do. Firstly, ask yourself where this belief came from. It might be from your parents, a teacher who said something to you in the past, or even something that a colleague has intimated or said which you have taken to be a truth. Once you start to identify where these limiting beliefs have come from, you can start to tackle them, one by one. By bringing your unconscious thoughts into the realm of consciousness, you can start to transcend them. Ask yourself, what purpose this thought has in your life? Does it allow you to grow? Does is mean you can have an excuse for things you have not done? Does it give you someone else to blame?  These are all starting questions to ask yourself. Then you can ask yourself, what you can do about it? There will always be something. Maybe the answer you get is that you feel underqualified – maybe you are and maybe you are not. Would gaining an additional qualification help? Or do you need to tackle a deeper seated need for external validation instead?

I realise that I have answered your question with many other questions, but this is the inner work that needs to be done in order to help you come to a realisation that you are enough already. One book that I recommend for you is “Unlimited Power” by Anthony Robbins. This is a great book to introduce you to the power of your mind, your subconscious and how you can overcome limiting beliefs. It has a lot of things you can do which I think will help you. You can also find many other books in my Resources section and I recommend you look under the Motivation and Self-Development section.

  10. I appreciate the way you laid out the principles of the Law of Attraction, but I can’t help filtering it through my faith in Christ. Scripture reminds us in James 1:17 that “every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights.”

While I agree our thoughts and focus shape our lives, I believe the deeper truth is that God is the One who ultimately provides, guides, and opens doors. Positive thinking and gratitude are powerful, but they reach their fullest meaning when they’re rooted in faith, prayer, and alignment with God’s will.

For me, it’s less about “tuning into a vibration” and more about seeking the Lord’s direction, trusting His timing, and allowing Him to shape my desires. Psalm 37:4 says, “Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart.” That promise reminds me that real abundance flows from walking closely with Him.

I’m curious, has anyone else here wrestled with how teachings like the Law of Attraction connect (or sometimes clash) with their faith?

    • Hi Jason.  Thanks for your thoughts and comments here.  I’m sure that a lot of people have some issues with some of the things that the Law of Attraction states – but then there are just as many people who will take issue with Christian, Muslim, or Buddist faiths too. And everyone is entitled to their opinion.

To me, there are many ways to Got, and I believe they are all fundamentally the same and it is the same God that is behind everything, like you say. I may call it ‘the universe’ but you call it divine presence, or God. I sometimes use that word, but I also think that the word has become corrupted in many people’s minds one way or another. That is not to say that God has become corrupted, as that is impossible – God is infinite and unconditional love, and I believe that this divine consciousness exists in all of us and loves us all equally – otherwise how could it be unconditional?

We are all different and come from different backgrounds and cultures, so of course, there are going to be differences in how God is understood in these cultures. But deep down, God is the only thing that truly exists, and I have a very deep faith in God too. To me, these differences don’t matter because the purest knowing of God is the one we have directly with the Divine and as long as we have our own understanding, which is aligned with our true and higher nature, we will find our own way to God.

The Law of Attraction is just one of the mechanisms of the universe, like gravity or the water cycle. It’s just the way that God organises the gifts to us. I think the only difference is that I would say that it is our vibration that is responded too, rather than anything else. Words in themselves are meanless, but the intent, feeling and emotion behind the words, gives you the true meaning.

You might like to read the post on thelanguage of the universeor even the universe is neutral, but understand that when I say, the universe, you could substitute God there too. They may give you a better understanding of what I’m discussing.

Thanks again for your comments. It’s great to have debates about this.

  11. I’ve always been curious about the whole “law of attraction” idea and how it’s presented in The Secret. The notion that what you focus on is what you draw into your life makes sense on one level – if you stay positive and visualize your goals, you’re more likely to notice opportunities and take action. On the other hand, sometimes it feels a bit like magical thinking to say the universe will just deliver things if you simply think about them. Have you personally tried techniques like vision boards, gratitude journaling or affirmations? I’d love to know if they’ve actually changed anything concrete for you. I’ve used a vision board when I was job hunting and it kept me motivated and on track, but I’m not sure the universe had much to do with it. Do you see the law of attraction as more of a mindset tool or a spiritual principle?

    • Hi there, and thanks for reading and commenting on this article. I think you are totally correct to question the oversimplistic view of the LOA which is presented in the book, “The Secret” and I also think that it is much more than just thinking positive thoughts, which I hope you get from the article here. The Law of Attraction is basically saying that ‘like attracts like’ and that things in the universe which vibrate and certain frequencis are attracted. In the article, I have pointed out that there is more too it than just thoughts because it’s the frequency and vibration that is responded too. Therefore people who hold limiting beliefs about themselves or life in general, need to work on these first because these are really the programs running your subconscious, and the subconscious is really running the show in life.

To answer your question, I have had a lot of success with the LOA, yes and you can read some details in my post here. If you want to go more deeply into things and really focus on why things may not appear to be working out for you, I suggest a book called “The Tya Practice” by David Strickel and Qatarina Wanders,  which you can find through the Resources section.
