Gratitude is everything. It is one of the highest emotions we can feel and it carries a powerful energy. It’s not just a pleasant state of mind, either. Studies have shown that practising gratitude regularly can reduce stress, boost mood, improve relationships, and even enhance physical health. Gratitude and the Law of Attraction go hand in hand.
Yet gratitude is still often overlooked in Law of Attraction teachings, which tend to focus more on visualisations and affirmations than on the emotional energy behind them.
But here’s the truth: gratitude and the Law of Attraction go hand in hand.
The more you express gratitude for what you already have, the more quickly and easily you’ll draw other good things towards you.
The Universal Response to Gratitude
The universe responds to gratitude with love and respect, reflecting back the energy you are offering. When you are in a state of gratitude, you radiate a frequency of abundance and the universe mirrors it.
Let me share a personal story.
I have a daughter who I fostered from the age of six and later became her special guardian when she was nine. She and her sister are now with me long-term and we think of it as forever.
For the last thirteen years, I’ve been gently teaching her to understand her emotions and to process some of the traumas from her early years. One of the things we talk about often is being grateful for what you already have, because gratitude shifts your energy towards the positive and helps more positive energy flow to you.
We sometimes play a little car game where we each name things we’re grateful for in that moment, like the sunshine, a hot chocolate, or a kind word from a friend. It always lifts our mood, and you can feel the energy change. It’s as if our vibrations rise together.
One evening, when she was about twelve, I tucked her into bed and went downstairs to write. After a while of hearing her still awake, I called up for her to settle down. A couple of hours later, I found a little handwritten note waiting for me.

It was simple, sweet, and heartfelt. Tears welled in my eyes as I read it. In that moment, my heart was full of unconditional love and appreciation.
And that, I think, is how the universe responds to us when we express gratitude. It isn’t about perfect words. It’s about pure feeling. When you send out genuine gratitude, the universe reflects it back to you in kind.
Gratitude creates abundance
There are so many proven benefits of gratitude practice, from a better mood to stronger relationships. When you feel grateful for something, you are recognising its value and affirming that your life is richer because of it. This feeling of contentment carries a high vibration, and energy attracts energy of the same kind. Gratitude is one of the most powerful manifestation techniques because it shifts your vibration instantly.
The opposite state is discontentment, complaining, and seeing lack. Thoughts like “I never have enough” or “nothing goes my way” carry low vibration, and the Law of Attraction will only bring you more to match that frequency.
It becomes a self-fulfilling pattern — unless you interrupt it with gratitude.
By contrast, if you feel grateful for every penny you have, you’ll often find that more flows in. If you are thankful for the people who are kind to you, more kindness tends to show up. Like attracts like.
There’s a wonderful children’s story called A Squash and a Squeeze by Julia Donaldson, where a little old lady complains that her house is too small. A wise man advises her to bring her hen, goat, pig, and cow into the house. Chaos ensues, of course, until he tells her to take them all out again. Suddenly, her house feels huge, and she declares happily:
“There’s no need to grumble, and there’s no need to grouse,
There’s plenty of room in my house!”
The house never changed, only her perspective did.
And that’s the power of gratitude. It transforms how you see your life, and the universe then mirrors that new vibration back to you.
The universe will send more love and more things to be grateful for if you express your gratitude to it.

How to find your gratitude every day
Here are my top 3 ways to invite gratitude into your life, even on the hard days.
- Remember, there is always something to be grateful for
- Trust that there is always support when you need it
- Start a gratitude journal.
Let’s take these in turn.
1. Remember, there is always something to be grateful for
Perspective is everything. If you feel stuck, it might just be because you’re only seeing one small slice of the picture.
When my daughter asks if she’s tall, I say, “Compared to what?”
To an ant, she’s enormous. To the Eiffel Tower, she’s tiny.

If you can see your situation as simply one step along your path, you can begin to be grateful for it even if it’s not where you want to stay. That shift raises your vibration and helps you see other blessings around you.
You don’t need to limit yourself to one area, either. Imagine yourself as a bubble of light, expanding in all directions at once. Gratitude in one part of your life often ripples out to others. Writing or speaking your gratitude can help raise your vibration and attract more of what you want.
If you struggle to see anything good right now, try this simple mantra:
“Help is on the way and I’m grateful for that.”
It’s enough to open the door.

2. Trust that support is always flowing to you
You are not separate from the universe; you are an extension of Source Energy. The larger part of you, your Higher Self, always has a higher perspective and is continually guiding you.
It knows where you are, where you want to be, and how to help you get there.
The only thing you need to do is let that help in. When you raise your vibration through gratitude, you come into alignment with the guidance that is always being offered.
Even in hard times, trust that unseen support is flowing your way and be grateful for it even before it arrives. This simple shift can change everything.
3. Start a gratitude journal (and speak it aloud)
Writing or speaking your gratitude anchors it more deeply.
Each day, jot down three things you’re thankful for. Keep it simple: the sunshine, your favourite mug, your cat’s purr, a moment of laughter.
Here are some easy gratitude prompts to get you started:
- What small moment made me smile today?
- Who am I thankful for, and why?
- What challenge taught me something valuable?
And then choose one of your gratitudes to say out loud each day. This brings the vibration into your body and helps you feel it fully.
Soon, you’ll notice a subtle shift from “I don’t have what I want” to “I’m grateful for what I have and excited for what’s coming.” That is the magic point where gratitude and desire join forces and that’s when manifestation happens.
Bonus: Celebrate the tiny things
You don’t need grand miracles to feel grateful. Sometimes the smallest joys bring the biggest lift. Notice the way light falls on your desk, the warmth of your tea, how soft your blanket feels, of the quiet stillness of night.
These fleeting moments are like breadcrumbs of abundance — the more you notice them, the more appear.

Gratitude and desire build momentum – and momentum of thought leads to the physical manifestation of things. You just need to be sure that the momentum you’re building is in terms of positive energy based on gratitude, rather than negative energy based on a perspective of lack.
Express your gratitude however you want – a journal, a prayer, a song, a dance. The way you express it is not important, but the fact that you are saying “thank you” for what you have, is.
When gratitude feels hard
Let’s be honest, some days gratitude feels out of reach. Trying to force it when you’re hurting can feel fake or even frustrating.
When that happens, lower the bar. Find one thing that is gently good, even if it’s tiny. A bird on the windowsill. A deep breath. The fact you made it through another day.
Start small. That single spark of gratitude is enough to start shifting your energy. From there, more light will come.
A gentle challenge for you
Try creating a simple daily gratitude ritual to anchor this energy in your life. For the next week, write down three things you’re grateful for each day.
They can be tiny or huge, physical or emotional – anything that makes you feel even a flicker of appreciation.
And as you do, notice how your mood, energy, and outlook begin to change. Gratitude truly is the seed from which abundance grows.
If you try it, I’d love to hear how it goes. Share your thoughts by replying to my newsletter or tagging me on social media. Let’s spread a little more light together.
In love and light.

Great post as always Gail! I’m a big believer in the law of attraction and living with joy and appreciation for all the gifts we have in life. You’re right, expressing gratitude is often the best way to enrich our lives and truly reach a happy state.
Hi Kay. Glad you liked the post and found it encouraging in your daily life. Expressing gratitude is so important it’s a wonder we all just don’t do more of it. I guess we have practised complaining for longer – time to redress the balance! 🙂
This is a beautiful post! It is so important to have gratitude and I am practising it more and more, it can be hard to remember, but practice makes perfect 🙂
Thank you for sharing, you have reminded me to be grateful today!
Hi Danielle. That’s great and thank you for taking the time to leave a comment. I hope you have a truly wonderful day and can appreciate every moment. Gail
Hey Gail.
This article left me speechless.
There is so much truth in your words.
A truth that we are all well aware of, but somehow we tend to forget from time to time.
Your post is such a powerful piece of writing!
It made me instantly relaxed.
Thank you for that.
I’ll be waiting for more like this one!
Hi Boryana. Thank you so much for your very kind words and I’m glad you liked the article. I think that many ‘truths’ are out there but we are often so caught up in our day to day living that we forget what is really important. The spiritual laws have always been available to those who want to find them, and we don’t have to become an Indiana Jones in order to unearth them either. We just need to quiet our mind and the hustle and bustle of the world we are living in, and tune to our higher selves for a short time. And then, all is revealed. If you like this article, you may also like the one that explains the law of attraction more fully or my law of attraction and emotions one. I look forward to you visiting again. Thanks. Gail
Thank you for this post. In general, it has been found that people who practice gratitude as a consistent part of their habits report many benefits: Gratitude gives meaning to our past, brings peace to our present, and creates a vision for tomorrow. I have been working on this since the year began. And I wanted to share with you all how important it is to practice gratitude daily.
Hello Ann and thank you for your kind comments. I’m so glad that you have found the practice of gratitude beneficial. It’s such an easy thing to do and we can all do it easily, several times a day at no financial cost. However, the rewards are enormous both in terms of good things coming back to you and quite simply, in the way it can lift your mood and refocus your attention. So, ‘thank you’ again for your comments. Have a wonderful day. Gail
Your story about teaching your daughter gratitude reminds me of 1 Thessalonians 5:18: ‘Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.’ The way gratitude shifts energy and brings blessings aligns with what Scripture teaches about thanksgiving and God’s provision. While I understand the Law of Attraction from a different perspective: seeing God as the source of all good things rather than the universe, I absolutely agree that gratitude transforms our hearts and opens us to receive more of God’s blessings.
Hi Linda. Thanks for your comments on this article. Glad it reminded you of something personal to you. I too believe that God is the source of all things – I just prefer to use the term ‘universe’ often because I think the term ‘God’ has unfortunately become corrupted in many people’s eyes and they switch off when they think you are talking about God. Even though, God is Source Energy, the universe, All That Is and you and I.
And you’re right too. Gratitude transforms everything, so thank you again for your comments and thoughts here.
This piece really touched me—especially the reminder that gratitude isn’t about perfect words but about pure feeling. I love the story of your daughter’s handwritten note; it shows how even the smallest expressions of thanks carry so much energy and love.
On days when gratitude feels especially out of reach, what’s the first small step you personally take to shift your energy back toward appreciation?
Hi Jenny. Thanks so much for your kind words on this article, and I’m so pleased that you found something useful in it. I love rereading my daughter’s note too as it always make me a bit teary, but in a good way. To answer your question; if I find gratitude difficult then I usually go and sit in my garden and just listen to the birds or I sit and cuddle my cat. I find it’s very easy to find gratitude when you are stroking a purring cat.
What’s your ‘go-to’ solution?
